I think if anyone is using Android and disables all Google related apps and uses this as the primary browser it seems to be more secure and offers a lot more optionality. I believe the owner of this has also open-sourced the code (though maybe I’m misremembering). Please comment if you can and give it a try… though I know from your past comments you are not a big phone user.
Hi John, I just clarified the issue a bit more in the article. Basically these concerns about the Safe Browsing feature are based on an older version, which would send URLs to Google .

Install Shelter and use it to create a work profile to reduce data collection. This will keep those apps from accessing internal data outside the work profile but does not block portable storage access. Most if not all apps can be downloaded online so you do not need google play store. Ask around in android forums and security related forums to find out which web sites can be trusted. It seems to be particularly more privacy sensitive than any other browser I’ve seen on mobile.
With the current version, raw URLs are NOT sent to Google and also Firefox implements a number of privacy protections. Therefore I would not recommend disabling it because there is no real benefit to privacy and it would also be a security risk. The latest version of Firefox 67 has some cool new features directly under the Privacy & Security Settings/Preferences. Here you can directly configure tracking protection and implement browser fingerprinting protection.
I dont want to slow my browser to a halt by having 10 different addons all doing the same thing as firefox is already doing if you know what imean. Yes, unless disabled, this gives Cloudflare the browsing data of all Firefox users. I would recommend disabling this “feature” and just relying on a good VPN service to translate and encrypt all DNS requests in the VPN tunnel.
